Things to consider before buying a puppy
Puppies are adorable little bundles of love. There are a lot of advantages in introducing a new dog to a family, but not every puppy/dog works out for their new family. Below is a list of questions we suggest you consider before making a commitment to a new puppy for your family.
Before buying a puppy …
Is a young puppy the right dog for our family or should we consider an older dog?
Can we cover all financial costs of owning a dog - purchase price, ongoing costs of food, bedding, toys, routine veterinary check-ups and de-sexing and other treatments, including emergency incidents?
Can we afford pet insurance, or to put money aside to pay for emergencies?
Is our home safe, secure and suitable for a dog?
Will the new dog get along with our other pets?
Are we willing to keep the dog inside and deal with toilet training?
Do we have enough time to train and social the dog?
Can we provide the dog with enough company so they don’t get bored or lonely?
Do we have time to walk and/or play with the dog every day?
Are we ready to make a 12-15 year commitment in owning a dog?
What is our plan if we are no longer able to care for our dog?
